When I was small I had selective mutism. I had a hard time engaging with people and it impacted my everyday life including no primary school was willing to take me in despite I was a top student. 

I was often being mistaken as arrogant and rude by families, friends and schoolmates. People with selective mutism are often being misunderstood.  When I said it took me a while to find my voice, I literally mean it ;)
